ACTIVE SHOOTER TRAINING

On July 22-25, the Marion County Sheriff's Office sponsored two (2), Level 1 Active Shooter training courses in Bull Shoals. The training consisted of two (2) sixteen (16) hour training courses and was taught by instructors from Arkansas, Iowa, and the FBI. The course is based on the curriculum from the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center from Texas State University, and trains police officers how to respond to an active shooter incident. The course covered shooting and moving, threshold evaluation, concepts, and principles of team movement, setting up for and room entry techniques, approach and breaching the crisis site, secondary responder tactics, improvised explosive devices, and post engagement priorities of work. The course culminated with force-on-force scenarios.
Twenty-seven (27) police officers from seven (7) law enforcement agencies in Arkansas and Tennessee attended the training. This included thirteen (13) Marion County deputies.
